FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The latest effort to conserve California’s most-precious resource: stricter low-flow standards for showerheads.

The California Energy Commission has adopted the standards, which would reduce water flows by 20%, on heads manufactured after next July.

An additional decrease of 10% would be mandated in 2018.

Californians use about 186,000,000,000 gallons of water in the shower every year, and the state hopes the new standards, will save more than 2,400,000,000.
