FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Latinos account for nearly half of California’s 12.5 million Medi-Cal enrollees.
However, according to the Independent California Healthcare Foundation, 36% of the Spanish-speaking Medi-Cal population, has been told that they won’t be taken by a physician.
It’s not yet been determined why Latinos, be they English or Spanish speakers, are being rejected at higher rates.
Although, there’s significant concern, that the largest obstacle, is finding doctors who are willing to accept the lower reimbursements offered by Medi-Cal.
State lawmakers are expected to take up legislation, which aims to improve those rates.
