What is FOMO? Read on…
You may be watching the road when you’re behind the wheel, but a new study on teen driving –finds teens may be doing much more.
According to a study by Liberty Mutual Insurance and Students Against Destructive Decisions — 88 percent of teen drivers who considered themselves “safe” drivers are watching their phones,,, and not just texting, but using apps like Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter – the most popular distractions.
The main reason? Fear of missing out – “FOMO.”
“Fear of missing out is something as a kid, they worry about what party is going on, what gossip they are missing, they’re so worried about what’s going on around them – but they are not worried about what they are doing. As a parent, I’d put limitations on their phones.” – Valentin Farrel, Westcare Addiction Counselor.
Teens live in a digital world, where it is vital to respond right away.
They say if they don’t answer a text message within three-to-five minutes, their friends think they’re dead.
If they crash their car – they just might be.
