That old saying “This is a man’s world”… it may be true when it comes to your office thermostat.
It happens every summer – offices turn on the air-conditioning… but if you are woman and feel left in the cold -it could be because the thermostat is set for a man.
A study, in the Journal Nature Climate Change, finds most office buildings set temperatures based on a decades-old formula based on men.
more specifically – the resting metabolic rate of a 40-year-old man who weighs 154 lbs.
In a move toward equality – their study concludes that buildings should “reduce gender-discriminating bias in thermal comfort” because setting temperatures at slightly warmer levels can help combat global warming.
