FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — 62% of Californians believe the effects of climate change have already begun.

According a new public policy institute survey, 24% say they’re getting closer.

Democrats are more likely to be concerned, as are Hispanics and African-Americans.

The survey follows Governor Jerry Brown’s visit to the Vatican for a climate summit.

Brown said, “We have to get on the side on nature, and not abuse it, or go against it.”

Meanwhile, the share of Californians who say air pollution is a problem has fallen, although a majority are still concerned.
