FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Upper-income and college-educated Americans are more likely to say they consume alcoholic beverages.
According a new Gallup survey, 8 in 10 adults in those groups admit to drinking, compared to only half of lower-income Americans, and those with just a high school diploma.
Analysts says the gap may reflect that high-earners can better afford to purchase alcohol, in addition to the fact that they’re more likely to engage in activities in which drinking is common, such as dining out.
Overall, 64% of Americans say they like to have a drink, with beer being the alcoholic beverage of choice.
