FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Race relations. The economy. Dissatisfaction with government. Americans say those are the issues they’re most concerned about, according to a new Gallup poll.

The percentage of citizens naming race relations as the most vital issue plaguing the country today, has risen to 9% — triple that seen just a month ago.

The increase is being attributed to the killings of 9 people at a historic African-American church in Charleston, SC, and other high-profile cases of police brutality.

However, mentions of racism are significantly below the all-time high of 52%, during the Civil Rights Movement and race riots in the 60s.

The economy and lack of satisfaction with the federal government, remain the biggest issues for Americans, followed by immigration and the budget deficit.
