FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California dealers sold a record 510,000 handguns in 2014, as well as a near-record 418,000 rifles and shotguns.
But a new report published in the journal Injury Prevention, says a mere 20% of Californians own a firearm. That’s, by far, the lowest rate of any state in the West.
The surge in sales is being attributed to fears, that the state will further tighten gun restrictions.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Health and Department of Justice reported last month that despite the substantial increase, gun-related crimes have fallen sharply.
