FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Governor Jerry Brown has called two special legislative sessions, urging lawmakers to tackle long-term funding shortfalls in California’s transportation and health care programs.

Complaints about Medi-Cal, which now covers one in three residents, say too many patients still lack access to medical and dental services.

Brown is also calling for a plan to finance repairs to the Golden State’s highways, which rank among the worst in the nation.

However, lawmakers don’t agree on solutions.

The governor and his party say they’re open to tax increases without voter approval, while Republicans accuse him of backing off a pledge, not to raise taxes without going to the ballot.
