Watchdogs Criticize Assembly’s Use of Operations Budget

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A large operations budget controlled by California Assembly leaders is often used to support select programs, without any hearings or votes.

According to a recent review by the AP, Assembly Democrats spent $115 million over a period of 6 years.
Lawmakers are defending the practice as a means of boosting worthy causes. However, government watchdogs warn that there’s a high potential for abuse, as there’s minimal oversight and accountability.
