SD Cop Released from Hospital After Being Shot

SAN DIEGO (AP) – The San Diego police officer who was wounded in a shootout with a suspect Sunday was released from the hospital.

The U-T San Diego reports that Officer Heather Seddon, a five-year veteran with the department, was shot in the neck during a firefight with 34-year-old Dennis Richard Fiel. Fiel died in the conflict.

A freeway pursuit ended in gunfire Sunday in the Serra Mesa area. Acting homicide Capt. Mike Hastings said police are still trying to determine if Fiel was killed by police or died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say Fiel is a possible suspect in a series of shootings in Kearny Mesa.
