FRESNO (KMJ) — Teams of fund raisers – in pale blue baseball caps carrying ‘Hunger Heroes’ signs – are on intersections across the valley today. They’re asking for your cash donations to help people who would otherwise go hungry. There are 27 groups dotted around the area – all asking for money to help the community food bank’s ‘Hunger Heroes’ campaign.
Organizers say a single dollar can help pay for seven meals for one person – and $10 can feed a family of four for a week.
“This corner at Palm and Shaw donations have been great”, says Director of Development Kim Dildine. “We just got a donation from Ronnie the bus driver who pulled in – in his bus – and said ‘there are kids on my bus who are hungry’. It just breaks your heart but he’s making a difference and you can too”.
“There are teams out on the corner wearing their blue ‘Hunger Heroes’ aprons and you can just roll down your window and hand over your money”.
Donations will be accepted up until 6pm Tuesday evening, and a complete list of where the donation sites are today can be found below.
