FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Using high-speed rail to get from Los Angeles to San Francisco would likely cost you around $86, according to the latest estimates by the LA Times.

You would pay around 20 cents a mile, compared to 25 cents for similar trip in Italy, 52 cents in France, or 46 cents in Germany.

The figure is simply a rough estimate, and premium tickets are certain to cost significantly more.

The CA HSR Authority expects the train to be up and running sometime in 2028; that’s when we’ll get a better picture of the true cost.
