This year, a Sanger High School student took home the overall title at the “Senior Girls Athlete” awards banquet presented by the Junior League of Fresno.
22 high school girls are recognized by the Junior League for their athletic and academic skills.
Lindsay Callahan is the President of the Junior League of Fresno and says for 34 years the non-profit organization made up of female volunteers has awarded scholarship money to twenty-two girls.
Seniors were nominated by their coaches from 22 high schools across the Valley including Bullard, Clovis, Roosevelt and Central.
The Junior League of Fresno volunteers selected the grand prize winner by her essay, academic achievements, and volunteer activities.
“This is one of our most important events because it really is the embodiment of everything that we do. We really want to honor females in our community who give back and volunteer but are also wonderful athletes and really great students.” – Lindsay Callahan, JLF President.
With a 4.0 GPA, and skills in water polo and swimming, Sanger High school senior Emily Imfeld won the title “Senior Girl Athlete of the Year.”
Emily described what the award means to her. “I feel like it means to be not only good at being an athlete, but you have academic and community involvement and just all around you can be a good person.” – Emily Imfeld, Senior Girl Athlete
Emily’s mom Cheryl Imfeld was pleased: “What an honor! I am really surprised and very, very proud of her!”
