Mandatory Water Cuts Revised

calif droughtMandatory water cuts are here … KMJ’s Michael Knight reports, so are the whiners.

This weekend, state regulators issued a revised plan for California’s first-ever mandatory water cuts, emphasizing the need for urgent action … the State Water Resources Control Board trimmed conservation targets for some communities with a track record of saving water, and for those who have not complied they increased the required cuts for cities that are too thirsty … San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Seal Beach your magic number is now only 8-percent because you’ve already cut back … Arcadia in the San gabreil VAlley and Beverly Hills, your magic number has increased to 36% because you apparently thought no one was watching … Los Angeles and Long Beach, you are on your way – your new magic number is 16-percent.

Under the water board proposal, underachievers are urged to impose more outdoor watering restrictions and change their water rates to encourage conservation. The board could also fine agencies up to $10,000 a day for noncompliance … State officials estimate the mandatory 25% reduction in urban use would save about 1.3 million acre-feet of drinking water over the next nine months. That is more than twice what the entire city of Los Angeles uses in a year.
