FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Monterey Democratic Representative Judy Chu says the U.S. Justice Department’s new guidelines for law enforcement agencies are inadequate.

The guidelines prohibit the authorities from profiling on the basis of race, gender, orientation, and religion.

But in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder. Congresswoman Chu — along with leaders of the Congressional black and Hispanic caucuses — is critical of exceptions in the guidelines.

They include an exemption for Homeland Security agents, who screen at airports and the nation’s borders.
