FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The likelihood that an 8.0 or larger quake will strike somewhere in the Golden State within the next 3 decades is up to 7%, according the U.S. Geological Survey.

That may not seem like much at a glance; but, it’s an increase of more than 3%, in the just the last 7 years.

Experts say we’re fortunate that seismic activity in California has been relatively low.

However, tectonic forces are continually tightening the springs of the San Andreas Fault system, making major earthquakes inevitable.
