Junior League of Fresno Planting Seeds of Growth for Kids

~~The Junior League of Fresno is working to create a garden for area children at The Discovery Center.

With shovels in hand, members were removing debris from the Discovery Center property at 1944 N. Winery, on Saturday 2/21/2015, to prepare the land.

The Junior League is a group of trained volunteers who work to improve the community and focus on women and children.

JLF President Lindsay Callahan says volunteers from the League have donated their time to prepare the garden for students who will visit with their classes.
“We're very excited to continue this partnership with our Discovery Youth Garden -which will benefit children throughout the central valley, teaching them not only about healthy eating but also about where our food comes from and the importance of our importance of our agricultural community.” – JLF President Lindsay Callahan

The Discovery Center's Director Paul Caprioglio describes the partnership with the League: "We started this process a few months ago, and they are just staying with it all the way, and it's fabulous, it sets a standard and a role model for the kids to see and participate too and see what we can do if we work together as a team.”

Caprioglio is grateful that two non-profits have joined efforts to allow children to “actually see how their food is grown, from seed to table.”

The end result will be a garden where kids from all over the central valley can visit for a hands-on experience to learn how our food is actually grown.

The Discovery Center Garden is on track for a grand opening in June 2015.
