FRESNO (KMJ) — The good times couldn't last forever – gas prices are slowly creeping back up again.
That's according to figures from AAA – which say the average price for a gallon of unleaded in Northern California has risen by 6c in a month.
The average price in Modesto and Oakland has actually beaten the state average – rising 7c a gallon.
There are fears of strike action affecting the price – as more than 5,000 members of the United Steelworkers union have walked off their jobs at refineries and chemical plants responsible for processing more than 10 percent of U.S. petroleum products.
“While news of the strike has reportedly led to higher wholesale gasoline prices, the work stoppage is not expected to have a significant impact on production in the short-term because refineries continue to operate,” said Cynthia Harris, AAA Northern California spokesperson.
“The abundant petroleum supplies may provide the refiners and union’s time to reach an agreement before there is a larger impact on consumers.”
But it's still far from the state's highest recorded price – which was $4.67 a gallon in October 2012.
