FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Seven children are in the care of family members after their father shot their mother, another woman and then turned the gun on himself, Selma police said Tuesday.
Chief Greg Garner said Eduardo Felix Escobar, 36, is responsible for the death of his longtime girlfriend Giovanni Loza Cervantes, as well as her cousin Jessica Emmanuel Cervantes after an argument at a home in Selma Monday afternoon.
Garner said the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter witnessed each shooting and struggled over the gun with her father believing she was going to be killed next.
“Sadly she witnessed the murder of her cousin in the front yard; she witnessed the murder of her mother inside the residence and witnessed her father take his own life,” Garner said.
Giovanni Cervantes and Escobar had seven children together and were reportedly dealing with relationship issues including financial and infidelity problems.
At least 10 adults and children were inside the home during the shooting including an 18-month-old. None of them were hurt.
A preliminary toxicology report shows that Escobar may have been high on methamphetamine at the time of the shooting. Garner said the suspect also had a criminal history involving domestic violence charges.
