FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Police have arrested a man they say tried to steal a car with the driver still in it.
It happened Wednesday night in the parking lot of Burlington Coat Factory on Blackstone.
A man waiting for his son – who was inside the store at the time – tells investigators someone went up to his truck asking for money, but then left when he was told no.
The suspect – identified by police as gang member Jesse Moreno – reportedly went back to the car, opened the driver's door, pushing the victim to the passenger side.
"The victim fought with the suspect and the suspect jumped out of the car and took off running. There were several witnesses who saw what happened and followed the suspect," said Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez.
Moreno was later found and booked into jail on one count of carjacking.
