FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The Keep Your Home California program is once again expanding, a move it says will help more homeowners qualify for up to $54,000 in assistance.

Unemployed property owners, who are the largest base of recipients, may now receive up to 18 months of help.

The aid is designed to help those out of work find employment, rather than worry about a mortgage payment.

The California Housing Finance Agency says despite an improving economy, we’re still far from a complete recovery.

California, especially in the valley, was among the areas hit hardest by the housing collapse.
