Producer of Crystal Geyser Bottled Water Fined for Waste Violations

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Federal prosecutors say a California company that produces Crystal Geyser bottled water has pleaded guilty to illegally storing and transporting hazardous waste and agreed to a $5 million fine.

Authorities say the waste was produced by filtering naturally occurring arsenic out of Sierra Nevada spring water at CG Roxane LLC’s facility in Owens Valley.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles says the company entered the pleas Thursday to one count each of unlawful storage of hazardous waste and unlawful transportation of hazardous material.

A call to the company facility was not answered.
