(KMJ) –  Governor Gavin Newsom officially signed new protections for California “Gig Economy” workers.  Wednesday’s signature of AB-5 gives wage and benefit protections to rideshare workers and thousands of others in a host of industries.

This legislation makes it harder for companies to classify their workers as independent contractors instead of employees.   But, CaliforniaGlobe.com editor Katy Grimes tells KMJ’s Philip Teresi this new law will negatively impact freelancers, tow truck drivers and truckers.

And Uber has joined Lyft and DoorDash in threatening to spend $90 million on a ballot measure if it can’t negotiate other rules for drivers with the Governor’s Office.
