Fresno Infant Clings to Life After Being Shot in The Head, Suspect Tied To Different Shooting

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – 10-month old Fayth Percy is fighting for her life.

She remains in critical but stable condition at Community Regional Medical Center after being shot in the head early Sunday morning in Fresno.

Fresno Police believe the alleged gunman is behind another shooting, as well.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says 18-year old Deziree Menagh stopped by a house party near Hammond and 5th Street when she was approached by 23-year old Marcus Echartea.

He reportedly tried to force her to hold his hand and became increasingly aggressive.

Menagh asked a friend for a ride and the two got into a car with her 10-month old baby girl Fayth.

That’s when Officers say Echartea pulled out a gun and fired three rounds into the driver’s side of the car.

One of those bullets struck Fayth in the head while she was being held by her mother in the passenger’s seat.

The infant underwent surgery at CRMC to remove bullet fragments from her brain.

Echartea is believed responsible for a second shooting on May 27, 2019 at a home on East Rialto Avenue.

Chief Dyer said it was at the home of the boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend.

Police said the bullets were almost striking a 1-year-old inside.

Echartea was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.

He’s facing a series of felony charges including three counts of attempted murder.
