California DMV Shutting Half-Day in July For Real ID, Employee Retraining

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – The Department of Motor Vehicles is shutting offices across the state but only for half a day in July.

On July 24th, employees at 183 DMV offices will work on their customer skills.

The DMV is reinforcing training for its 5000 employees on providing “excellent” customer service, and preparing them to process Real ID transactions.

Fresno Area Assemblyman Jim Patterson who has been battling with the DMV says it’s long overdue.

“It’s way, way past due for the managers of the DMV to train-up their staff and their employees. If we can achieve getting people on the same page, in the Fresno office or the Clovis office or the Sacramento office or the Los Angeles office, I think it will be worth the half a day but I have got to warn people – this is the beginning of the process that is going to take some time and we are still going to end up with some delays and heartburn,” said Assemblyman Patterson.

On July 24th, DMV offices will only be shut in the morning and reopen for business at 1:00p.m.

DMV online and call centers will not be affected.

Assemblyman Patterson said people who still have questions about the Real ID can contact his office.
