FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — A federal judge is demanding that the Golden State pay $399,000 to 3 pro-life pregnancy centers and a law firm, after the Supreme Court deemed a state law promoting abortion unconstitutional.
The law had required that “crisis pregnancy centers” offer information about how to obtain a tax-payer funded abortion.
Centers who didn’t comply with the law were subject to a $500 fine for the first violation, and $1,000 fine for each additional violation.
A study had found that 98.5 percent of the clinics subject to the requirement were pro-life.
In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court called the law “unjustified and unduly burdensome.”
