Zoo’s Valentine’s Day “Quit Bugging Me” Event Evokes Revenge on Ex’s

EL PASO, TX (KMJ) – For some, valentines day is not all wine and roses.

Not everyone likes their ex – but here’s some tasty revenge.

In Texas, the El Paso Zoo will name a cockroach after your ex, then feed it to a meerkat on Feb. 14.

The zoo’s “Quit Bugging Me” event allowed people to see video as the meerkats were fed the “named” Madagascar hissing cockroaches.

Sarah Borrego is the El Paso Zoo’s Marketing Director, and says their idea went viral

“What I’ve heard from the zoo keepers – this is the biggest treat for them – the equivalent of a t-bone steak for us, for humans, this is the creme de la creme for meerkats,” said Borrego.

“You now, its been crazy,” said Borrego. “We’ve gotten so may requests – probably about 6000 names so far.”

Borrego said they received people from as far as Australia, Spain, United Kingdom and South Africa submitting their exes’ names.

The zoo was airing the cockroach feeding event live on Facebook on the El Paso Zoo’s Meerkat Cam.
