Fresno is one of the cities to receive the email being circulated Thursday.

It’s caused evacuations and sweeps of dozens of businesses and schools across the US, in British Columbia, and here in California.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer tells KMJ that they have received five calls in Fresno about the alleged threat, and his police officers have responded but have not found anything credible.

Chief Dyer says the bomb threat appears to be a hoax.

Multiple law agencies including San Francisco’s Police department, and the New York Police Department are also saying the threats are not considered credible.

The FBI is looking for whoever is responsible, and the agency has reason to believe the threats are a hoax originating from outside the country.

In a statement, the FBI writes: “We remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.”

The FBI advises you do NOT send money.

If you receive a bomb threat email – save it and call 911 or Fresno Police at 559-621–7000 or your area’s police department.
