Mac the Mountain Lion at Applegate Park Zoo in Merced Passes Away

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Mac, a Mountain Lion at the Applegate Park Zoo in Merced, has passed away, zoo officials announced.

The Zoo says he was taken to the vet for surgery last Saturday for digestive issues, but he did not make it.

Mac was rescued at 5 weeks old. The Zoo says he was orphaned, had severe injuries and was found by a deceased sibling. Due to his injuries and situation, the zoo says it was determined that human intervention was necessary for his survival.

The Zoo says Mac ended up in the care of the head zookeeper. He was cared for 24/7 until he was healed and able to care for himself.

Mac grew up and lived at the Applegate Park Zoo for more than 12 years.

If you have any photos, stories, poems, drawings of Mac, etc., the zoo is collecting items to make a memorial poster at the zoo. Please bring your additions to the zoo to be added to the memorial.
