FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes, speaks with KMJ about releasing documents in the Trump Russia probe in the next coming weeks.

The Justice Department says it’s working with the director of national intelligence to comply with President Trump’s order declassifying documents in the Russia investigation.

In a statement Monday, a department spokesperson says the order triggers a declassification review by various agencies “to ensure the safety of America’s national security interests.”

Documents relate to the early days of the FBI’s Russia investigation, including portions of a secret surveillance warrant and former FBI Director James Comey’s text messages.

That review is now ongoing.

Nunes, spoke Tuesday exclusively on KMJ’s Ray Appleton Show, about releasing transcripts of interviews.

“We conducted roughly 70 interviews in the course of our Russia investigation, as you know, we wrote a report on that,’ said Congressman Nunes. “It was widely criticized by the mainstream media, and the left, however, it ends up that Special Council actually it looks like he copied our report because a lot of the research we was to indict some of the Russian foreign operatives, which is kind of ironic.”

Nunes says President Trump has ordered 20 pages declassified.

Christopher Steele, Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, was hired by Fusion to examine Trump’s ties in Russia. Steele was the author of the “dossier” alleging ties between Trump and Russia.

Nunes said Steele was fired for leaking to the media, and there are reports that the Congressman says he wants brought out in the open.

“There are essentially 12 reports that we want completely declassified simply because of all the corruption involved.”

Nunes also wants interviews he says were conducted with Trump Campaign people by people in the FBI.

Lastly, Nunes wants text messages by senior leadership at FBI to be declassified including those from Former FBI director James Comey, Andrew McCabe, the former FBI deputy director fired by Trump, Demoted FBI agent Peter Strzok, Trump advisor, Carter Page and Bruce Ohr.

“Bruce Ohr of the ‘Justice’ Department (can you believe he is still there) is accused of helping disgraced Christopher Steele ‘find dirt on Trump.’ Ohr’s wife, Nelly, was in on the act big time – worked for Fusion GPS on Fake Dossier.” – President Trump, in a tweet, Aug. 14, 2018.

Nunes says President Trump has called for all of those items to be released in a timely manner.
