Full Containment Reached On Ferguson Fire

(KMJ) – After battling the Ferguson Fire for nearly 40 days in Mariposa County, fire crews say they fully contained the deadly blaze on Sunday.

The cause of this fire, which began July 13th in the Merced River Canyon, remains under investigation.  But in the battle against it, two fire fighters, Braden Varney and Brian Hughes, were killed, 19 others injured.  At its height, more than 3,000 fire personnel battled this blaze as it burned in the Sierra and Stanislaus National Forest and within the boundaries of Yosemite National Park.

The blaze now covers 96,901 acres and officials say firefighters will continue to patrol, mop-up and repair fire lines.

Wawona Road within Yosemite National Park is expected to open on Friday, August 24, at 8 a.m.
