Transgender Victim Dies After Central Fresno Shooting

FRESNO (KMJ) — A homicide investigation is now underway after a body was found lying in the road in Central Fresno.

The discovery came early Wednesday morning, after a shot-spotter alert was received by Fresno Police at 2.59am, in an alleyway close to the intersection of Fourth and Belmont.

“Officers arrived on scene…we tended to the victim, first aid was applied, the victim was transported to CRMC where we just found out the victim had succumbed to their injuries,” explains Sergeant John Viveros.

“Right now detectives are working on this, homicide detectives are working on the case, and trying to get some leads.”

The Fresno Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 34 year old Imer Eliu Alvarado, of Fresno. Investigators add that she was a 34 year old transgender woman, and that she was involved in what Chief Jerry Dyer describes as “some type of disturbance.”

“In the alley initially, then it carried out onto the street. That victim was shot multiple times by the suspect. We believe the suspect is a lone male.”

Detectives have located evidence at the scene, are looking for witnesses, as well as checking surveillance cameras.

“We have very little information on the suspect at this point, other than it is a male and that person who is responsible for this shooting ran eastbound after the shooting through the alley. We do not even a physical description or a clothing description at this point.”

Chief Dyer adds that there is a lot of prostitution taking place in the area.

“We don’t know if that was involved in this particular homicide, or if this was a hate crime or a robbery, we have not been able to establish a motive for this crime at this point.”
