Former CA State Senator Ron Calderon Gets 42 Months in Prison

FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — Former California Democratic State Senator Ron Calderon has been sentenced to 42 months in prison.

Calderon pled guilty earlier this year to accepting bribes from undercover FBI agents, in exchange for legislative favors.

Prosecutors had sought a 5-year sentence, but Judge Christina Snyder said that was too harsh.

Calderon comes from a family of politicians. His brother, former Assemblyman Tom Calderon, was sentenced to 1 year in federal custody last month, for laundering the bribes taken by Tom.

Their brother, Charles Calderon, and nephew, Ian Calderon, who’ve served in the Assembly, are not believed to have been involved in the corruption scheme.
