Arrest of One of Tulare’s Most Wanted Ends In Shooting

(KMJ) – A tip leads to the capture of one of Tulare County’s 10 Most Wanted Criminals.

Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputies say the caller told them 39-year old Randall Clay Ver Steeg was inside a motel in Lindsay.  Ver Steeg was wanted on numerous warrants in both Tulare and Fresno Counties. 

On Tuesday afternoon, Deputies made contact with him inside his motel room.  But they say he resisted and attempted to retrieve a loaded .357 magnum revolver from his waistband.  That prompted A Sheriff’s Deputy to shoot him once in the upper torso. But no other shots were fired.

At the request of Sheriff Mike Boudreaux, the Porterville Police Department has been asked to investigate the incident. As per protocol, the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Ver Steeg was taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in critical condition and underwent surgery upon arrival there. Currently, he’s in the intensive care unit in stable condition.

The fugitive, Randall Ver Steeg, is in intensive care at Kaweah Delta Medical Center with a two deputies standing guard. He's listed in stable condition.
