Weekend Shootings Have Police Targeting West Fresno Gangs

Dyer targeting gangs

There was ten shootings over a 10 hour period from December 5th through December 6th, and in three incidents, victims were hit.

Now, Police Chief Jerry Dyer is placing a bulls-eye on West Fresno gangs.

One incident took place overnight Saturday (12/5/2015), during an event at the Fresno Fairgrounds, and that incident spurred two more shootings.

A 25-year old man was shot near a liquor store at Jensen and Walnut, suffering non-life threatening injuries, and just before 9:00 am, police shut down Highway 41 near McKinley Avenue because a 24-year old driver was shot by someone in another car.

Gunshots

Police Chief Jerry Dyer says around 30-40 rounds were fired at the Fresno Fairgrounds, and guns were turned on officers, who were there to keep the peace, after they learned that something could go down between the rival gangs.

“Regardless of whether or not officers were targeted in this incident – we know that West Fresno gangs were involved in this, we know that they were rival gangs and we are going to target gangs from West Fresno so we put an end to this, and there will be an intense focus and effort on them.”- Police Chief Jerry Dyer

Treymane Beard

The suspect in the shooting on the 41 freeway, 33 year-old Treymane Beard (seen above) was brought into custody after a high speed chase ended Sunday morning with him crashing his Mercedes.

Chief Dyer said the suspect has gang and drug ties and was able to post his $200,000 dollar bail, and get out of jail.

Chief Dyer says he is working with the District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp to pursue that case, and they are aggressively targeting West Fresno gangs before any retaliation in this gang warfare affects innocent lives.
