Pressley’s Staff Wonders What Happened to ‘Panic Buttons’

Rep. Ayanna Pressley’s chief of staff is wondering what happen to the panic alarm triggers in the Massachusetts Democrat’s congressional office after she discovered them missing when protesters breached the Capitol a week ago.

Sarah Groh said she and her staff barricaded themselves inside their offices Jan. 6 when protesters entered the building. Groh said she pulled out a gas mask and began looking for the panic buttons when she noticed they were missing.

“Every panic button in my office had been torn out — the whole unit,” she reportedly told The Boston Globe.

Calling the breach “white supremacist terrorism,” Groh said she was accustomed to triggering the alarm as part of safety drills because of Pressley’s status as part of the notorious “Squad” of Democratic House members, which also includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

“I had gas masks in my hand, barricaded the doors to our office with furniture & tried to throw our panic buttons within a few minutes of sending this,” Groh posted to Twitter the day after the breach. “We are ok but this is not ok. White supremacist terrorism. That’s what this is.”

Pressley posted to Twitter on Tuesday that she and other members of Congress were moved to a secure room during the disturbance, a location she quickly abandoned because it “included treasonous, white supremacist, anti masker Members of Congress who incited the mob.”
