PORTERVILLE, CA (KMJ) The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating a plane crash in Porterville.
Authorities say the aircraft was transporting four doctors from the Bay Area to Porterville for a surgical procedure. No patients were on board.
The plane overran the runway around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and crashed in an area southeast of the airport near Teapot Dome Avenue and Newcomb Street.
When Deputies arrived, they saw smoke coming from the plane and learned the plane had been trying to land when it slid off the runway and came to rest in a nearby field.
Two pilots and all four doctors were able to evacuate safely without injury.
Flight tracking data shows the aircraft traveled from San Jose to Oakland before heading to Porterville.
