FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN/ABC/KMJ) — A cyclosporiasis case in Fresno County has been confirmed by the Department of Public Health.
The FDA is investigating if iceberg lettuce supplied by a supplier founded and based in Salinas, California – Taylor Farms to Taco Bell restaurants has been linked to the parasitic outbreak. The locations were in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia
While there is a cyclosporiasis case in the Valley, health officials confirmed it is not stemming from the outbreak in parts of the Midwest.
Only one case of cyclosporiasis was reported in Fresno County in 2025.
Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, also known as Cyclospora, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The infection affects the small intestine and can cause watery diarrhea with sometimes “explosive” bowel movements, according to the federal health agency.

Other symptoms can include cramping, bloating, low-grade fever, nausea and vomiting.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) says California has seen fewer cases in 2026 than it had at this time last year, and there are no known local outbreaks in the state at this time.
While the nationwide outbreak is not impacting the state, doctors are urging residents to thoroughly wash produce and follow food safety guidelines.
Michigan, New York and Ohio are being most impacted by the outbreak. Officials are still investigating the root cause.
