FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — National Donate Life Month took focus at KMJ’s Afternoon Drive as representatives from Donor Network West joined Philip Teresi in studio to raise awareness about the life saving impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
Ambassadors German Amezcua and Kristin Eachus discussed the mission of Donor Network West, the federally designated nonprofit serving California and Nevada, and the growing need for donors across the region. More than 100,000 people nationwide are currently waiting for a transplant, with nearly nine in ten in need of a kidney.
The visit also featured Adriana Castillo, a kidney transplant recipient, who shared her personal experience navigating the donation process and how transplantation changed her life. Her story underscored the urgency of donor registration and the real world impact behind the statistics.
The conversation comes during National Donate Life Month, observed each April, a time dedicated to honoring donors, recipients, and encouraging more people to register their decision to give the gift of life.
