(KMJ) New polling released this week has progressive billionaire Tom Steyer leading the field of gubernatorial hopefuls with 21% of likely voters and Republican candidate Steve Hilton is second at 18%, according to SurveyUSA.
Eric Swalwell, who resigned from Congress Tuesday after bombshell sexual assault allegations, polled at third with 9% of voters.
If the polling is to be believed, Steyer’s momentum is on the upswing. One of the biggest endorsers of Swalwell, the California Teachers Association, threw its backing behind Steyer on Wednesday.
But it’s not all roses right now for Steyer. He has raised the ire of law enforcement by calling for the elimination of ICE.

“I’ve made it clear: ICE must be abolished. ICE is acting like a criminal organization, carrying out indiscriminate racial profiling and using violence, intimidation, terrorism, and the murder of Americans to extend Trump’s rule by fear,” he posted on X.
His anti-ICE stance, however, is being called hypocritical by critics who are pointing out that Steyer’s hedge fund invested millions into private prisons operating in California.
