STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that ICE was involved in a shooting in the county on Tuesday.
ICE Officers were conducting a targeted vehicle stop to arrest Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, who is a street gang member wanted in El Salvador in connection to a murder.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons says as officers approached his car, he weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run an officer over.
Lyons says officers fired defensive shots to protect themselves, fellow agents and the public.
Right now, the on and off ramps on I-5 and Sperry Avenue are closed and are expected to stay that way the rest of the day.
Drivers should expect significant delays and avoid the area if possible.
No deputies from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office were involved.
