FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A former Kings Canyon Unified School District teacher was sentenced Thursday to one year in prison for committing sexual acts with a 14-year-old student.
In court, the victim’s father spoke in court, where he got emotional.
“Don’t let her spend another day out of jail. No one worried about my kid, no one worried about what happened to my kid or what he goes through every day because of this. He hasn’t come out of his bedroom in a year,” he said. “This is killing me, my son, my other two boys, the other part of my family.”
Krystal Jackson, who previously taught in the district, was ordered to register as a sex offender for 20 years as part of her plea deal.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested her in 2021 after learning of her relationship with a student from Mountain View School.
According to investigators, the boy was enrolled in an independent study program that required weekly meetings with a teacher at Dunlap Leadership Academy.
Detectives said the crimes occurred during those meetings.
Jackson was taken into custody immediately after her sentencing.
