FRESNO, CA (KMJ) In an exclusive interview Tuesday with KMJ’s Broeske & Musson, Reedley City Manager, Nicole Zieba, said “this country is very unsafe” when asked for her reaction to a recent bio lab bust in Las Vegas.
An illegal biological laboratory was raided by Las Vegas PD and the FBI on Jan. 31. Investigators say it has ties to the Reedley investigation which broke in late 2022.
An LLC tied to the home’s county records reportedly matches the name of a company that is part of the federal case in Reedley.
A Chinese national, David He (AKA Jia Bei Zhu, Qiang He or Jesse Zhu), remains jailed awaiting trial on federal charges of manufacturing and distributing misbranded medical devices.
He’s also wanted in Canada where he faces a $330 million judgement for stealing intellectual property from Canadian and American companies.
Zieba was also highly critical of the CDC’s response (or lack thereof) to the first bio lab raid on a facility in Reedley in 2022.
The Reedley facility contained thousands of vials of infectious agents (including HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis), 1,000 genetically engineered mice, and a freezer labeled “Ebola”.
