FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — A grim discovery in Caruthers. Authorities found a man’s body inside a home early Thursday morning.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputies have been on scene for hours collecting evidence into what they are calling a questionable death.
“Male on the ground, covered in blood. Unknown if breathing,” said over scanner traffic.
Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Oak and Tahoe Avenues early Thursday morning.
Inside, they found a man suffering an unknown injury. First responders tried to help but he was pronounced dead.
“The death is being treated as questionable at this point. Deputies are still on scene talking with people to determine if there’s anybody that saw or heard anything,” says Sergeant Alan Kelzer, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The forensic lab crime scene unit arrived on scene and investigators entered the home to search for evidence.
Several people were taken in for questioning as deputies work to identify the victim and uncover a reason for the man’s death.
“This is shocking to the community. Especially so close and this is like the heart of town, I would say, right in the middle for this to happen is crazy,” says Victor Gutierrez, Caruthers’s Resident.
Signs outside the home read “alcoholics anonymous.” Neighbors say many people live there and the night before, heard loud music into the early morning hours.
With the investigation just beginning, authorities continue to search for answers.
Action News asked, “So we don’t know when possibly he may have sustained these injuries whether it was in the evening time or was in the morning time?”
Sergeant Kelzer responded, “That’s correct. It’s too early on in the investigation for us to make a determination on that at this point.”
Right now, deputies don’t believe there is an ongoing threat to the public and have not said if they are looking for any suspects.
