FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — Fresno Unified School District is prepared to welcome over 70,000 students across its 106 schools.
“I am so excited! This is my first year stepping in as official Superintendent, and I am just so amazed because our team has been working so hard this summer,” said Superintendent Misty Her.
Wednesday morning, school and local leaders stood side by side…sharing the work underway, goals in place, and important reminders for the new year.

Superintendent Misty Her kicked things off with gratitude and highlighted some new spaces for students.

She laid out the long-term goals in place and the small steps happening now to stay on track.
“We have a goal in early literacy that by 2030, 80% of our first graders are going to learn how to read,” said Her, ” 64% of students who graduate will be college or career ready.”
And while academic improvement and success are at the top of the district’s list, so is safety.
Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto is reminding everyone to be extra cautious behind the wheel when driving around schools.
She also urges parents to be patient and follow the school’s traffic plans in place.
“Do not stop on the roadway to allow passengers to exit the vehicle, we have seen a number of collusions that happen this way and endangers your children significantly when this happens,” said Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto.
Students and parents can also access support through the district if they’re experiencing challenging times.
“We have lots of counselors, people in our department of intervention and prevention,” said Her, “We will make sure that our children get what they need.”
Parents are being asked to update their contact information and download the district app “Parent Square” to stay informed and connected to your child’s school.
