(KMJ) – The City of Clovis and surrounding region have received a substantial amount of rainfall in a short amount of time, and more is on the way.
City Public Utility crews have prepared for the wet weather over the past several weeks and are currently responding to weather related issues as they arise. Teams are actively working to keep our storm drains and gutters free from leaves, branches, and other debris.
One area to avoid is Ashlan Avenue, between Thompson and Highland. The road experienced some weather related damage and traffic is being rerouted.
You may see crews pumping water from one area to another in certain parts of the city. This is normal. All the water that is falling has to go somewhere. The City of Clovis is working closely with the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District (FMFCD), coordinating efforts to move water into temporary flooding basins with capacity.

The City of Clovis has distributed more than 4,000 sandbags to residents. If you are a resident requiring sandbags, a self-service sandbag fill station is located at the Clovis Corporation Yard at 155 N. Sunnyside Ave. Sandbags are limited to a maximum of 10 per household.
“Our City of Clovis public utilities crews are top notch”, said City Manager John Holt. “Many worked throughout the weekend and around the clock responding to issues and preparing for this next round of rain. We appreciate their efforts to help make our streets safe for drivers”.
With the level of forecasted rain, it is normal for gutters to fill up to the top of curb. This is part of the normal drainage process. Streets where the water stops moving and pools above the top of street curbs should be reported.
