FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ/KFSN) — The city of Fresno is suing the Trump administration to block the cuts to federal grant funding.
Fresno joins several other California jurisdictions, including the city of Eureka and Sacramento County, looking to halt the enforcement of executive orders cutting grant funding to the city.
Officials say the action is a last resort to preserve essential funding.
Mayor Jerry Dyer said in a statement that Fresno relies on the federal grants, adding, “When Washington suddenly rewrites the rules, it’s our families, seniors, and small businesses who suffer most.”
Grants at stake here in Fresno include more than $100 million for projects in the transportation department.
The FAA was also committed to providing $50 million in funding for capital improvements at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport, with another $100 million anticipated for upcoming infrastructure upgrades.
