FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — California voters are expected to be presented with a $450 million bond, to replacing outdated voting systems across the state.
Secretary of State Alex Padilla says it would be the first major update in 15 years, adding that “no would would settle for a 15-year-old cellphone or computer.”
The proposal is due to get its first legislative hearing next week.
If approved, the money would also help the state implement legislation signed into law last year by Gov. Jerry Brown, which calls for closing neighborhood polling places and encouraging vote-by-mail.
