FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Californians are still conserving water according to February’s conservation results.
Urban Californians reduced their water usage by just over 25% percent in February, according to numbers released Tuesday from the State Water Resources Board.
That’s better than a year ago, when the savings rate was only at 11%.
Under the old rules, municipal water districts had to cut usage by as much as 36% percent in some districts.
Last summer, the Water Board rules were relaxed, and mandatory conservation was not required for districts able to withstand three consecutive years of drought, and of the 411 urban districts- most are able to do so.
Now, the pressure is on for Governor Brown to declare the drought over. Either way, the State Water Board is working on a long-term plan called; “Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life,” to permanently ban wasteful practices.
